This is another beautiful coffee machine from the hey day of Italian design. Made by FEAR of Milan- this lever machine has an open boiler, with a gravity fed group head. You simply lower the lever, compressing a spring and allowing hot water to enter the piston. Then you release the lever, and the spring forces the water through the coffee grinds at high pressure. The result is superb espresso- time after time. The secret of lever machines like this is the great temperature stability of the group head.
On the Peppina you simply turn the machine and wait for the kettle to reach a boil. When it does you switch it off and are ready to make your shot. The water will be in the correct range 93-98C for perfect espresso. With a little practice you will soon be squeezing out perfect shots.
The machine on offer here is an early model with superb 1960's styling. It has the more rare rounded enameled boiler and 50's style drip tray. This machine has been fully restored with brand new seals fitted on the piston and group head. The boiler has been lightly descaled and all parts cleaned. It comes complete with small and large baskets and a tamper spoon to fit.
Cosmetically the condition is great- there are some signs of age and light use, but functionally everything is perfect. The bakelite lever handle and portafilter handle are excellent, the filter baskets are great and the boiler is in good shape. The bakelite lid for the boiler has some minor cracking from heat and time but is still complete and does its job.
The machine was tested and produced a perfect espresso. It is ready to go.
The power cable is fitted with an Italian plug and the machine is 240 Volts. We recommend that the new owner have the cable rewired by an electrician as the original is old. It has no damage however and works fine.
