SASSOON Atomic Coffee Maker Rare UK Manufactured Atomic- Complete Espresso Maker c1960
- Vendor: Ikon Exports, Australia
- Type: Coffee Makers
This Atomic coffee maker was manufactured by the UK based A & M.G. Sassoon company, some time in the 1950's or 1960's. The Sassoon is a very rare type of Atomic coffee maker- much less common than the Giordano Robbiati Italian machines- or the Stella Austrian Atomics.
The Sassoon is quite unique. The British designers added their own distinctive flattened water knob, a steam arm featuring a cherry red bakelite knob, and the jug handle is also a unique shape. As a collector I think the Sassoon Atomic is one of the best looking Atomic machines ever made: the cherry red ball steam looks amazing! Sassoon actually produced balls in maroon, blue yellow and cherry red. Of all these colours I think the cherry red is the best. It is also quite a rare that the ball is in such fine condtion- often they are worn, faded and/or cracked- this one is MINT- like new.
As you can see in the images the coffee machine on offer here is in superb, and very complete condition. Very hard to find one this good. The alloy is very shiny and the machine shows few signs of use at all. Inside it is very clean. Externally the condition is excellent plus- there are a few marks here and there on the alloy, and other signs of the machines age- but these just add to its charm and the overall condition is rated as excellent. The Bakelite jug handle is a slightly marked and 'aged' from heat. The Bakelite black knob and portafilter handle are excellent. The ATOMIC label on the top of the machine is in fine condition: usually these are badly worn. On this example the black paint is nearly 100% complete. I have seen many Sassoon machines but only a handful with badges in such fine original condition.
It comes complete with all its original parts- other than a light polish I have left this completely as found and original. In addition this machine will come with a brand new stainless steel filter basket, black water knob, a spare coffee jug (Italian Atomic style parts) and two spare silicon seals for the machine head. These spare parts are a perfect fit for the vintage Sassoon and have a retail value of over $100. We included the these parts so that if the buyer wants to use the machine for making coffee- they can use the spare parts provided and keep the original jug, knob and filter baskets for display only.
The machine has been carefully checked and is in perfect working order.
The Sassoon Atomic is much rarer than Italian Atomics- and even more rare in this fine condition. The design is pure Mid Century 'organic' modernism at its very best- and objects like this belongs in the worlds great design museums and collection: or in your kitchen!
