As you can see in the images this espresso machine has classic 70's styling with bright orange paint and its squarish design. The machine looks like it is made of shiny plastic- but the body is all metal. The orange paint is a very fine enamel finish. The boiler, piston, filter basket and portafilter are all made of quality stainless steel. The heating element is not built onto the base of the boiler and not submersed. this is a great design.
The Zerowatt is descended from the famous Arrarex Caravel of Milan and shares an identical 45mm filter basket and portafilter. The seals are also identical. And just like its older sister the Zerowatt also produces truly outstanding espresso with mounds of crema, with the greatest of ease. The design has an open boiler- which means that it is very easy to get the water to the ideal temperature range for the production of great espresso. This is not idle talk- you need to experience the espresso from one of these machines before you can judge it. The verdict is: Outstanding!
The machine on offer here is in very fine condition showing only light signs of use. There are a few marks here and there but as you can see it looks very good. The stainless boiler is very clean and the piston seals are good. The machine has been cleaned and the seals lubricated, ready for use. It was tested and worked well- however there is one issue: the thermostat switch does not seem to function as it should:
When the machine reaches a boil the thermostat is supposed to turn of the heating element and the red light at the front should come on. The switch has probably seized up over time so it does not go off. In actual use this really is no big deal: when the machine reaches a boil simply switch it off at the side and you are ready to make espresso. The temperature of the water in the kettle remains at the ideal range for 5 minutes or more: more than enough time to make several espresso's. If you need to make more simply switch on the kettle for a few minutes.
This machine will be the perfect addition to a 70's style kitchen. Extremely rare machine, ready to make espresso.
This coffee maker runs on 220/240 volts. Users in countries with lower voltages will need a step up transformer for it to work correctly. It comes fitted with an Australian plug ready to go.
